Jennifer Cortes is a partner at Verma Cortes, LLC. She was previously the founder and managing attorney of The Cortes Law Firm, LLC for 11 years. Ms. Cortes has 16 years of professional experience working as a licensed attorney and over 20 years of experience working on immigration-related issues. Ms. Cortes is licensed to practice law in the State of New Jersey. Her work in Maryland is dedicated exclusively to the federal practice of Immigration and Nationality law.
Ms. Cortes was born in Bogotá, Colombia and was the daughter of a Lebanese Immigrant. Ms. Cortes came to the United States in December 1994. She attended the Columbus School of Law at The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC where she obtained a Juris Doctor degree and a Certificate in Specialized Program of Studies in Comparative and International Law.
Throughout her career Ms. Cortes has been an active participant with the American Immigration Lawyers Association and the Federal Bar Association. Since 2010, Ms. Cortes has served as volunteer attorney with CASA, a non-profit organization providing legal services to the immigrant community in the metropolitan Washington DC area. Ms. Cortes also provides pro bono legal services through KIND (Kids in Need of Defense) and the Montgomery County Bar Association of Maryland.
